Position Summary:
The Materials & Planning Coordinator is responsible for protecting company margins through disciplined purchasing, accurate material planning, and proactive supplier coordination. This role ensures materials are available to meet production requirements while controlling costs and minimizing excess inventory. The position plays a key role in improving data accuracy and system utilization within the Alere ERP platform to strengthen planning visibility, reduce manual reporting, and improve procurement decision-making. This role is designed for a developing supply chain professional who will grow into increasing ERP ownership and analytical responsibility.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Protects gross margin by purchasing materials in alignment with approved pricing, contract terms, and inventory strategy while identifying and escalating cost risks or savings opportunities.
  • Plans, releases, and monitors purchase orders to ensure material availability aligns with production schedules and customer demand.
  • Maintains optimal inventory levels by managing safety stock, lead times, order quantities, and supplier performance to prevent disruptions while minimizing excess and obsolete inventory.
  • Proactively follows up on open or at-risk purchase orders and communicates material risks early to prevent production delays or expedited costs.
  • Ensures accuracy and integrity of purchasing and planning data within Alere ERP, including:
    • Supplier pricing, lead times, minimum order quantities, order increments, safety stock levels, and timely closure of purchase and work orders.
  • Expands effective use of ERP functionality and reporting tools to improve planning visibility and reduce reliance on manual spreadsheets.
  • Collaborates cross-functionally with Planning, Production, Sales, Logistics, and Finance to align purchasing decisions with operational priorities and financial objectives.
  • Coordinates supplier communication, documentation, and performance follow-up, including support for new product introductions and escalation of supplier issues when necessary.

Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
  • Ability to understand the financial impact of purchasing decisions.
  • Basic understanding of inventory management principles (lead times, safety stock, MOQs).
  • Willingness and aptitude to develop proficiency in Alere ERP.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Clear and professional communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Problem-solving mindset with ability to escalate risks appropriately.

Education & Experience, Required:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Basic computer proficiency

Education & Experience, Desired:
  • Experience in manufacturing, logistics, planning, or purchasing environment preferred
  • Prior exposure to ERP systems
  • Experience in inventory or production coordination
  • Interest in pursuing supply chain certification (APICS or similar)

Travel Required:
  • Occasional travel to relevant trade shows / supplier locations

  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to use a PC. The employee is required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 55 lbs./25kg.
